call of wild a white fang
This week I am reading The call of the wild and White Fang by Jack London a book that I'm not quite sure how it made its way to my hands. I didn't really enjoy this book if I'm honest. Just the plot its about, I didn't find very appealing. The story begins with Henry and Bill, they have six sled dogs and are trying to get the dead body of Lord Alfred back to town. After a tragic turn of events Bill dies from a pack of wolves and 4 of the dogs go missing. Henry alone can't make it back to town but thankfully is saved by a group of men passing by. After this point the novel changes the narration view to a she-wolf that struggles to feed her cubs. Only one of the cubs survives and his fate falls into the hands of an Indian (Gray Beaver). Gray names the little cub White Fang and trains him to kill other dogs. After some time Gray takes the she-wolf and the White Fang chases after her and Gray beats the white fang for doing so. Eventually the white fang became a killing machine killing other dogs but at some point he was close to dying but is saved by a man named Scott. At this point I realized this book related to social Darwinism and how it's always the survival of the fittest. There are many archetypes of this story and I would prefer them over a story about dogs. I would compare parts of it to Conte di Montecristo with the relationship between Edmond and Jacopo, but I think I've forgotten that book -its been a while- ,might do a separate post about it. Has anyone else read this? Let me know what you thought of this novel.
